Women and Stroke

Are you one of the women who think men are more likely to suffer from stroke than women? You are in for a (unpleasant) surprise: did you know that stroke kills more women than breast cancer? Women can suffer from the same stroke symptoms as men do, amongst them sudden onset of trouble walking, talking and seeing, but women are known to report unique and little known symptoms of a stroke, such as sudden face and or limb pain, sudden nausea or hiccup or sudden shortness of breath or palpitations.

I find Krissy Schintgen’s story particularly touching and inspiring: her blog talks about her life following two strokes at the ages of 14 and 23 years. At age 32, she is a stroke survivor! Read her story at http://notfastjustfabulous.com/2013/06/12/my-strory/

Follow up with more details from the Stroke Association’s website and learn about the risk specific to women, at any age! http://www.stroke.org/site/PageServer?pagename=women
