Basic First Aid courses teach participants how to provide first aid during an emergency, either for ill or injured people, whether it is at home, on the street, at work or elsewhere in the community. Participants will learn the skills required to manage emergencies until professional help arrives.

Both courses are highly interactive incorporating different media including video clips and audio files. All courses comply with international standards for first aid as well as with Swiss regulations.

Customers can choose between two different basic First Aid courses. The information covered in both courses includes
  • Impairment of consciousness
  • Introduction to CPR
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Breathing problems
  • Allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock
  • Convulsions, concussion and head injury
  • Fractures and sprains
  • Burns and scalding

The set up and functioning of Swiss and European Emergency Rescue Services are explained in all first aid and BLS courses.

TICKS

If a course is held in an area endemic with ticks, prevention, management of tick bites, immunisation against TBE andgeneral information about ticks is included.

Not sure whether you live in an endemic area? Visit the website of the
Bundesamt für Gesundheit (Federal Health Office Switzerland) BAG and check out their tick map (last update December 2011). Note: This particular BAG page is available only in German and French but you can still read the list of locations affected. For questions or if you would like a translation of the document, please contact me.
TICK BORNE ENCEPHALITIS

In many areas in Switzerland, ticks can transmit two different pathogenic germs to humans: the bacterium (Borrelia burgdorferi) causing Lyme Disease and the virus causing Tick Borne Encephalitis (TBE).

You can find some information in English about TBE on these websites:
www.tickalert.org

and
WebMD
